AfriForum calls on cultural communities and civil society organisations to honour the legacy of previous generations through dedicated work aimed at securing a beautiful future for the children of Africa and a renewed focus on the strengthening of cultural identity, freedom and justice. AfriForum made this call during the celebration of Africa Day on 25 May.
AfriForum works with dedication to secure a free, safe and prosperous future for Afrikaners, in peaceful coexistence with other cultural communities, at the southern tip of Africa. To this end, AfriForum builds good relations and cooperation, based on mutual recognition and respect, with other cultural communities, and undertakes joint grassroots projects that strengthen cultural identity as well as community self-reliance and self-sufficiency. “We cannot change our difficult past, however much we would like to do so. The future, however, is in our hands – that is what we are focusing on; we choose for continued existence in justice,” says Barend Uys, Head of Intercultural Relations and Cooperation at AfriForum.
“Africa gave birth to the Afrikaner; we have no other home. It therefore is a privilege for us to collaborate with dedication to secure a future for our children and the children of other cultural communities. Africa and her people have enormous potential, and we believe that the full potential of our beautiful continent can be unlocked by communities that take responsibility for themselves, restore and cherish a healthy cultural self-image and -self-confidence, strengthen community self-reliance, and work together with other communities where possible. Today we also commemorate the previous generations who sacrificed so much to ensure that we can all have a place here,” concludes Uys.
