Wellness expert shares insights with Bloemfontein business owners
AfriForum Sakenetwerk understands how easily business owners can fall into the trap of exhaustion and burnout, often without recognising the warning signs in time. Motivational speaker Brenda Myburgh recently visited AfriForum Sakenetwerk’s Bloemfontein branch, where she shared expert advice and creative solutions with business owners on how to make wellbeing an integral part of running a small business.
The training session was held on 21 September at the Akademia Study Centre in Bloemfontein, where members of the Business Network’s Bloemfontein branch gathered. Myburgh highlighted the fact that most business owners cannot separate their personal lives from their work or businesses, and that each has a significant impact on the other.
“Businesses today are often characterised by exhausted managers who become cynical about their dreams and eventually find themselves chronically overwhelmed. As a result, management decisions are made too hastily, are driven by emotion and have negative consequences because they are not based on balanced management information,” says Myburgh.
She added that there is a significant difference between perception and reality, and that personal growth can therefore make a valuable contribution to healthy business and client relationships.
“Consider aspects such as which factors frustrate you, ask yourself what your unique strengths are and which skills you need to develop. Take time to identify what drains you and remove the problem or source of emotional depletion. Then choose only three priorities to focus on in the short term and implement them within a set timeframe. Taking action creates a sense of achievement that has enriching effects, particularly once it becomes a habit,” says Myburgh.
Marisa Kruger, Chairperson of AfriForum Sakenetwerk’s Bloemfontein branch, emphasised how informative the session had been, particularly because the principles apply to any type of business in any industry. “I now realise how important it is to look after your personal wellbeing so that your business can thrive.”
