Welkom’s new neighbourhood team is making a big difference in this community

Amid the continued decline in service delivery and the poor state of the Matjhabeng Local Municipality, AfriForum has decided to strengthen its presence in Welkom by establishing a dedicated neighbourhood team.

In the short time that this team has been at work, it has already achieved several successes. Over the past few weeks, the neighbourhood team has, among other things, filled potholes at Naudeville Primary School and repainted a faded stop sign. The faded stop sign posed a safety risk to learners and motorists, but thanks to a lick of paint, it has been made visible again.

The neighbourhood team is currently working on several other projects aimed at improving the safety and cleanliness of the community. These projects will be rolled out over the coming months and form part of AfriForum’s ongoing commitment to empowering communities to take responsibility for their own surroundings.

“We are very excited about the positive impact that the new neighbourhood team has made in such a short period of time. The need for community involvement is greater than ever before. We are seeing how residents are willing to work together to make Welkom a place that everyone can be proud of,” says Christa Ikking, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the Highlands.

AfriForum invites the residents of Welkom to get involved with the neighbourhood team and to support its projects. By working together, the community can make a real difference where local authorities fall short. Visit www.wordlid.co.za to make a difference today.
