Who and what is AfriForum?

AfriForum is an Afrikaans civil rights organisation that protects the rights of minority groups at national as well as provincial level, and anyone who can identify with AfriForum’s principles and objectives may join the organisation. AfriForum’s community plan focuses on mobilising communities to thus take control of their own streets and neighbourhoods again. AfriForum’s mobile health centre assists 60 Kempton Park residents

AfriForum’s Kempton Park branch provided basic health services to 60 residents at three locations through its mobile health centre in September 2026. The regular visits bring nursing care closer to residents, particularly older people who find it difficult to travel for basic health checks.

The centre visited Lenitas Retirement Village on 15 September, the Dutch Reformed Church in Birchleigh on 16 September and Allen Park on 24 September. The branch opened the mobile health centre in 2020 and continues to provide services at various locations in the community each month.

“When we can visit people where they live, it becomes easier to check on their health regularly. Sometimes the help someone needs starts with something as simple as a blood pressure check or a conversation that shows they need further medical attention,” says Lucy Verbeek, a nurse at the health centre.

The service includes basic nursing support and health checks. Where necessary, the nurse recommends that a resident seek further medical attention.

The health centre visits Lenitas on the third Tuesday of each month from 09:00 to 11:00 and the Dutch Reformed Church in Birchleigh on the third Wednesday from 09:00 to 10:00. Visits to Allen Park also take place monthly on the third Thursday, from 08:00 to 12:00.
