New Kuruman-Kathu neighbourhood team removes 17,6 tonnes of refuse within first two weeks of establishment

AfriForum’s newly established Kuruman-Kathu neighbourhood team, consisting of only two workers, has already removed 17,6 tonnes of refuse from the streets of Kuruman and Kathu within the first two weeks of its inception. During this period, the team travelled 450 km and completed 160 man-hours cleaning up the Kuruman-Kathu area.

According to Lize-Mari Smit, AfriForum’s District Coordinator in the Northern Cape, the neighbourhood team was established to provide practical support to the community wherever possible by tackling visible issues.

“The neighbourhood team undertakes refurbishment, cleanup, and maintenance projects on an ongoing basis because AfriForum doesn’t just talk about problems – we create practical solutions. The results from the first two weeks demonstrate that even a small team can make a significant difference when people roll up their sleeves and take personal responsibility for their own community,” says Smit.

In the meantime, the neighbourhood team is continuing its work in the Kuruman-Kathu area. AfriForum encourages residents to get involved and work together to keep their community clean, safe and functional.
