AfriForum’s Germiston fire team helps extinguish blaze near petrol station
AfriForum’s fire team in Germiston was called out shortly after 15:00 this past Sunday to provide assistance after a fire broke out in Osborn Road in Wadeville. The flames had already engulfed a truck and shipping container and threatened to cause significant damage in the area, as the fire was burning near a petrol station.
“Given the location of the fire and the risk it posed to the surrounding infrastructure, it was essential to bring the blaze under control as quickly as possible. The swift response by the various fire teams and the excellent cooperation at the scene helped to bring the fire under control before it could spread further,” says Elzabe Pretorius, Chairperson of AfriForum’s Germiston branch.
AfriForum’s Germiston fire team worked alongside the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality’s fire and rescue services, as well as the fire team in Germiston, to fight the blaze and prevent it from spreading further.
“This incident once again highlights how important it is for firefighting services to respond quickly and effectively, particularly when a fire breaks out near critical infrastructure such as a petrol station. AfriForum’s Germiston fire team is prepared, where possible, to provide the necessary support and work alongside other role players to protect residents and property,” says Pretorius.
