AfriForum’s Stilfontein branch makes inroads into pothole problem

AfriForum’s Stilfontein branch continued repairing potholes around Driefonteine Primary School last week. The branch repaired more than 100 potholes in the area in May and continued the project this month in Gouritz Street and Elsie Street, in collaboration with Pieter du Preez, councillor for Ward 30. A section of Stilfontein Road, between the roundabouts at Somerset Avenue and Kowie Street, was also repaired.

Alta Pretorius, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the Mooi River, says schools are close to AfriForum’s heart. The organisation therefore focuses on roads around schools to enable parents to transport their children safely to and from school. The branch plans to carry out repair work in the area every month.

“The poor condition of the roads means that this project is making a real difference in residents’ lives. The support of every community member will help ensure that Stilfontein’s roads are restored to a drivable condition in the future,” says Pretorius.

Jonathan Fourie, Chairperson of AfriForum’s Stilfontein branch, thanked those who made it possible to repair nearly 200 potholes in Stilfontein over the past few months. He also called on residents to join forces with the organisation so that more potholes can be filled.

“There is a growing need for reliable service delivery. Everyone who contributes to this project is therefore taking the first step towards accepting responsibility for their own surroundings,” says Fourie.
