AfriForum’s Stilfontein branch repairs more than 100 potholes around Driefonteine Primary School

AfriForum’s Stilfontein branch, in cooperation with Pieter du Preez, councillor of Ward 30, his committee, as well as workers from the Matlosana Local Municipality, began repairing potholes around Driefonteine Primary School on 19 May. The AfriForum branch, councillor and committee continued the project on 20 May and, over the course of these two days, used a total of 6,4 tonnes of tar in Harts Street to repair 180 potholes along a section of this 590-metre-long road.

Since schools are close to AfriForum’s heart, the organisation focuses on roads around schools to enable parents to transport their children safely to and from school. The branch plans to undertake this project monthly. As the streets are in a poor condition, this tar project is very costly. The branch therefore takes the liberty of asking the Stilfontein community for donations to ensure that the project can be carried out sustainably.

“The streets in Stilfontein are truly in a dreadful condition, with this project already making a significant difference in the town. The community’s cooperation will therefore be greatly appreciated,” says Alta Pretorius, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the Mooi Rivier.

Frans Marx, principal of Driefonteine Primary School, thanked AfriForum in a letter for helping repair the roads around the school. “AfriForum’s willingness to get involved and assist not only improves the cleanliness and safety of our school environment, but also makes a meaningful difference to everyone who uses the area daily. We sincerely value this support and community involvement,” says Marx.

Jonathan Fourie, Chairperson of the AfriForum branch in Stilfontein, is appealing to the community to make a financial contribution to the branch’s pothole project. “The cost of materials and labour is high, therefore every donation would be welcome to boost this project and make a significant difference in the town,” concludes Fourie.
