AfriForum tackles empty stands to keep criminals out of Vryburg
The AfriForum branch in Vryburg has undertaken several cleaning projects since the beginning of the year to reduce shelter for criminals in empty stands and thus eradicate crime in the area. So far, more than eight empty stands have been cleaned and a total of 1,1 hectares of grass has been cut. The long grass at the entrances to the town also poses a danger to motorists, which is why it is maintained to ensure a safer environment for everyone.
“The AfriForum branch in Vryburg is working hard to get rid of possible hiding places for criminals. Empty stands are the perfect place for criminals to hide and make it difficult to spot them during patrols. The branch’s neighbourhood team has taken on the task of creating a cleaner and safer environment for all residents,” says Jp Nel, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for Stellaland.
In the meantime, the branch is planning various training sessions for neighbourhood watch members, as well as self-defence training for the community. Furthermore, the branch is continuing with clean-up projects and plans to expand the neighbourhood team to tackle more sustainable projects in the community.
The Vryburg branch would like to encourage the community to join AfriForum to make more projects like this possible. Visit www.wordlid.co.za to get involved.
