Dear Mr D Mhangwana

URGENT COMPLAINT AND DEMAND FOR ACTION REGARDING ONGOING WATER CRISIS IN TZANEEN

We, the undersigned residents of Tzaneen, write to express our serious concern and frustration about the persistent and unacceptable water supply failures that has been affecting our community for over two years now. The ongoing shortages, intermittent supply and poor water quality have caused severe hardship to households, schools, clinics, businesses and vulnerable members of our community.

Specifically, we request that you address the following immediately:

  • a clear, written explanation of the causes of the water disruptions and steps that are being taken to resolve these.
  • Publish a realistic timetable for the restoration of a reliable, continuous water supply to all affected areas.
  • Provide interim measures (e.g., emergency water tanker deliveries, safe water distribution points and water quality testing reports) and ensure priority access for hospitals, schools and the elderly.
  • Outline planned infrastructure repairs, upgrades, funding sources and maintenance schedules to prevent recurrence.
  • Establish and publicise a single point of contact within the municipality for water-related complaints, with guaranteed response times.
  • Compensate or provide relief measures for households and businesses that have suffered demonstrable losses due to the crisis.
  • We expect a written response within 14 days of receipt of this letter confirming the actions that you will take and the timeline for implementation of these actions. If no satisfactory response is received or no meaningful action is taken, we will be have no other choice but to escalate this matter to the provincial government, the national Department of Water and Sanitation and other relevant oversight bodies, as well as to pursue public and legal remedies.

    Regards
