Knysna neighbourhood team rolled up their sleeves and made a difference during April

The AfriForum neighbourhood team in Knysna showed during April that they do not shy away from hard work. This team, which forms part of the organisation’s Knysna branch, has undertaken various projects in Knysna and Sedgefield during this time to improve the environment amidst service delivery shortages from the municipality.

This team cut approximately 1,300 m² of grass in an open field in the Rexford area and cut a further 600 m² of grass at an open plot in Sedgefield.

In addition, the neighbourhood team also showed their mettle when it came to repairing potholes. Approximately 5 tons of tar were used to repair potholes at various locations in Knysna. Among other things, the team used 3.4 tons of tar to repair a giant pothole in Lloyd Street. Community members raised funds to make this action a success. The team also repainted speed bumps in Dikkop Street so that they are more clearly visible, especially in the evenings.

“We believe that true progress is possible when communities take ownership of their environments, and through practical actions like this improve their environment. Residents must realise that the only defence against decay and decline is resilient and organised communities,” says Marthinus Erasmus, AfriForum’s district coordinator for the Southern Cape.

AfriForum remains committed to providing practical solutions and driving sustainable projects that benefit communities.

One of the branch’s sustainable initiatives is a reliable recycling service offered to residents and businesses. Interested parties can sign up for a weekly service at R240 per month or a fortnightly service at R140 per month, which includes a green wheelie bin. This project serves as a practical solution to help mitigate the impact of Knysna’s waste crisis.

AfriForum encourages residents to become part of the branch’s projects and work together to build a culture of self-reliance, responsibility and community pride.
