Kempton Park branch provides training to 20 patrollers for a safer community

AfriForum’s Kempton Park branch hosted a comprehensive training session for patrollers in August, aimed at better equipping volunteers in Kempton Park to play a responsible and effective role in community safety.

The training took place over two Saturdays and was presented at Elim Clinic in Kempton Park. A total of 20 patrollers participated, including ten AfriForum members, five members of the Norkem Park Community Policing Forum (CPF) and five members of the Bedfordview CPF.

The training covered, among other topics, the legal aspects that patrollers need to be aware of and crime scene management.

AfriForum maintains that it is important for community members involved in patrols not only to be motivated to protect their communities, but to also have the necessary knowledge and skills to act within the law and handle situations responsibly.

“Community safety starts with people who are willing to stand up and make a difference. By providing proper training, we ensure that our patrollers are better prepared to act during patrols, handle situations correctly and operate within the framework of the law,” says Wouter Heyneke, member of AfriForum’s Kempton Park branch management.

The branch regards the cooperation between AfriForum, the Norkem Park CPF and the Bedfordview CPF as an important example of how community organisations and residents can join forces to promote local safety. It was also particularly encouraging that three members of Kempton Park’s Youth branch attended the training. The involvement of young people in community safety initiatives demonstrates that the next generation is willing to take responsibility and contribute actively to their communities.

“We would also especially like to thank Jan Vermaak, Capt. F. de Villiers, as well as Roger Weimann, Director of Elim Clinic, and Phineas Ralebiti of Elim Clinic for their support and contribution to the success of the training,” Heyneke adds.

AfriForum’s Kempton Park branch will continue to support training and safety initiatives that empower residents to play an active and responsible role in the safety of their community.
