Cleanup initiative by AfriForum’s Edenvale branch continues to transform Eastleigh

AfriForum’s Edenvale branch has once again rolled up its sleeves to clean the traffic island at the corner of Terrace and Andries Pretorius Roads in Eastleigh, also known as Linda’s Corner Island. The project forms part of the branch’s ongoing commitment to a cleaner and safer Edenvale.

The traffic island before AfriForum’s Edenvale branch started the cleanup project in 2024.

This project continues month after month, having kicked off more than two years ago when dedicated AfriForum volunteers first cleaned the site.Since then, the branch has ensured that the traffic island remains tidy and free of litter while keeping the vegetation under control.

According to Peter Kaminski, Head of Environmental Affairs at AfriForum’s Edenvale branch, the transformation of this traffic island is visible proof of what community members can achieve when they work together. “Although the maintenance of public spaces is the responsibility of local authorities, communities do not have to stand by and watch their neighbourhoods deteriorate. By taking responsibility for our environment, we can create spaces that everyone can be proud of calling home,” he explains.

AfriForum Edenvale thanks every volunteer who has contributed towards maintaining Linda’s Corner Island over the past two years. Their dedication demonstrates how ordinary citizens can make an extraordinary difference through sustained community action.
