Brits neighbourhood watch test preparedness with farm attack simulation

AfriForum’s Brits neighbourhood watch reenacted its emergency plan this past weekend by simulating a farm attack in the rural area of Krokodildrift West just outside of Brits. A total of 22 members participated in the exercise, while two dogs were used to track the suspects. The aim of the exercise was to test and further improve the neighbourhood watch’s preparedness and response during a possible farm attack.

“Reenacting emergency situations are essential to ensure that role players are prepared for real emergency situations. These types of exercises help to test response plans, improve communication and identify weaknesses before an actual attack occurs. The value lies in learning from mistakes so that teams can act effectively when every second count,” says Armand Viljoen, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for Marico.

“Each member’s contribution plays an important role in enabling this neighbourhood watch to assist the community when emergency situations arise. The cooperation and dedication shown during the exercise is something the community can be proud of,” says Stephan Roos, Safety Chairperson of AfriForum’s Brits branch.

After the exercise, a debriefing was held where both positive and negative points were discussed. The aim of this is to identify lessons from the exercise and continuously improve the neighbourhood watch’s ability to act quickly and effectively.
