AfriForum’s Rustenburg branch begins recycling project

AfriForum’s Rustenburg branch recently launched a recycling project that focuses on collecting and sorting household waste so that recyclable materials can be reused. This recycling service, which is now available to all residents of Rustenburg, aims to promote a cleaner and more sustainable environment.

It is estimated that South Africans produce approximately 122 million tonnes of waste annually in the form of construction debris, organic waste, garden waste, packaging, etc. Roughly 10% of that waste is recycled, meaning that the vast majority still ends up on landfills. With this project, the branch wants to offer a practical solution to relieve the pressure on landfill sites and at the same time make residents aware of the value of recycling. By participating in the project, households can reduce their environmental impact and actively contribute to a cleaner town.

“It’s important for AfriForum to drive projects that not only create awareness but also offer sustainable solutions. Recycling is one of the simplest ways in which communities can make a tangible difference,” says Armand Viljoen, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the Marico.

Recycling contributes to the conservation of natural resources, reduces pollution and helps to extend the lifespan of existing landfill sites. This is an essential step towards responsible environmental management.

“We encourage all residents to become part of this initiative and make a difference with us. Through small changes in our daily habits, we can make a big impact,” says Viljoen.

This service is available to residents at a cost of R99,99 per month for a fortnightly service. Visit www.afriforumdienste.co.za for more information.
