AfriForum’s Kroonstad branch repairs Border Street’s potholes
AfriForum’s Kroonstad branch, in collaboration with the Kroonstad Country Club, has undertaken the repair of Border Street on 25 February by filling the numerous potholes in this street. So far, 4 500 kg of tar has been used to repair the potholes. However, the project is not yet completed and it is estimated that a further 1 ton of tar will be used to complete the repairs on approximately 2 km of the 5 km long road surface.
According to Johan Fourie, Chairperson of the AfriForum branch in Kroonstad, the condition of this road has deteriorated to such an extent that it has become almost impossible for motorists to use Border Street safely.
“We cannot watch as infrastructure deteriorates further and residents’ safety is compromised,” says Fourie.
Christa Ikking, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the Highlands, says it is unacceptable that residents are forced to provide basic services themselves where local authorities fail, while they still faithfully pay their taxes.
Fourie calls on the public to become part of the solution and work together to make Kroonstad a better and safer place for everyone again. He concludes by saying that he will take action where necessary and that the community will not just sit idly by and wait for everything to fall into disrepair.
AfriForum’s Kroonstad branch is planning many projects for 2026 and is eager to make this town a success story.
