AfriForum911 response unit assists with arrest of suspected robbers
AfriForum911’s response unit in Bloemfontein, in collaboration with MATA SEC and the South African Police Service (SAPS), on 9 April acted swiftly following reports of an armed robbery and arrested two suspects.
According to information, three victims were allegedly robbed earlier under the pretext of a ride-sharing opportunity. One of the victims was allegedly stabbed with a knife. The vehicle which the suspects were driving, is also linked to several other crimes.
A community member shared the location of the suspects’ vehicle, after which response units were immediately mobilised. Upon arrival at the scene (the N1 on-ramp at Nelson Mandela Drive towards Langenhoven Park), the suspects were approached and additional support arrived shortly thereafter.
During the operation, a replica firearm was found in the vehicle, as well as drugs, including Mandrax and crystal meth. Alleged stolen cell phones and other goods were also found in the vehicle.
The two suspects who were arrested were handed over to the SAPS.
“Community involvement in crime prevention, such as sharing information, plays a critical role in enabling rapid response and apprehending criminals,” says Christo Groenewald, District Coordinator of AfriForum in Bloemfontein.
This successful arrest highlights the value of collaboration between community safety structures, private security companies and law enforcement agencies. AfriForum911’s response unit remains committed to making communities safer through rapid action and effective collaboration.
