AfriForum trains another 16 proto-team members in the Eastern Cape

Jacques Broodryk (English)

AfriForum recently presented its 30th proto-team training course in the Jeffreys Bay area in the Eastern Cape, where 16 AfriForum neighbourhood watch members completed this intensive training. These members now form part of AfriForum’s national network of highly trained proto-team members who are equipped to respond to high-pressure situations and emergencies.

The participants, who came from AfriForum’s neighbourhood watch structures in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), Jeffreys Bay, Cradock and East London, received theoretical and practical training in areas including tactical firearm handling, self-defence, radio communication, approaching and securing crime scenes, responding to violent incidents and basic emergency medical response.

The training aims to equip neighbourhood watch members with advanced skills to enable them to respond to serious emergencies safely, in a disciplined manner and within the confines of the law.

“Proto-team members are ordinary people who are willing to take on extraordinary responsibility for the safety of their communities. They voluntarily give up their time to undergo training and make themselves available when others need help. With every course, we continue to build a nationwide network of well-trained volunteers who are ready to act responsibly when it matters most,” says Jacques Broodryk, AfriForum’s Chief Spokesperson for Community Safety.

“However, completing this course does not mark the end of their training. Proto-team members must continually practise and sharpen their skills. Our aim is to make communities across the country increasingly resilient and equip people to play an active role in their own safety within the confines of the law,” concludes Broodryk.
