AfriForum neighbourhood watch joins forces with ten other security partners during mass patrol in Benoni

AfriForum’s Benoni neighbourhood watch joined forces with ten other local security partners last Friday evening (24 July 2026) to secure the streets of Benoni during the organisation’s nationwide mass patrol. A total of 23 AfriForum neighbourhood watch members participated in the patrol, maintaining a strong, visible presence in this East Rand town.

According to Yvonne Gerber, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the East Rand, the joint visibility of security role-players was so successful that no serious crime incidents were reported during the patrol. “The high visibility of security role-players in Benoni certainly had the desired effect and confirms the value that proactive, visible patrols and cooperation add to community safety. The patrol aims to actively combat crime, build community trust, and foster cooperation between local security entities and emergency services – and the recent patrol met all these critical requirements. In this way, we as a community are actively working together to build a safer Benoni,” Gerber explains.

In addition to AfriForum’s Benoni neighbourhood watch, Black Bear Security, BlackHawk Tactical, CMS Security, Supercops Security, Trio Security, NoJack, A-Tac Security, SecureFire, ER24, and the Community Chaplaincy Service also participated in this mass patrol.

Gerber emphasises that the value of initiatives like these lies not merely in responding to crime, but in preventing it through a strong, visible presence. “When communities, private security partners, and emergency services join forces, it sends a clear message that crime will not be tolerated in our communities. We are grateful to every volunteer and security partner who gave their time to participate in this mass patrol. By taking shared responsibility for our safety, we are building not only safer neighbourhoods but also stronger and more resilient communities,” she concludes.
