AfriForum neighbourhood team repairs 10 tons’ worth of potholes in Klerksdorp in just one month

AfriForum’s Klerksdorp neighbourhood team tackled the city’s potholes head-on over the past month, using 10 tons of gravel and bitumen to repair 60 potholes. This pothole repair project forms part of the team’s broader remedial initiative, which saw various maintenance and safety projects undertaken in Wilkoppies and Flamwood during June.

In addition to repairing potholes, the team cleaned public spaces and helped bring two veld fires under control, thereby limiting damage to property and the environment.

The neighbourhood team is currently undertaking cleaning and maintenance work along Buffeldoorn Road and Central Avenue, focusing on the refurbishment of these streets and traffic islands.

According to SW Scott, Chairperson of AfriForum’s Klerksdorp branch, the neighbourhood team’s sustained presence in the community demonstrates their commitment to keeping the town neat and liveable. He believes, however, that the contributions of every volunteer and supporter help make this success a reality. “We are grateful to everyone who makes time, energy, and resources available for the execution of these projects. By working together, a visible difference is made every day to turn Klerksdorp into a cleaner, safer, and more pleasant place for everyone,” he explains.

The team’s operational capacity also received a boost this month with the purchase of new equipment. Scott emphasises that these purchases will enable the team to carry out maintenance work more efficiently.

Alta Pretorius, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the Mooirivier District, maintains that community involvement in maintenance projects like these is essential. “The only way our city will once again become a showcase city is if residents join forces and tackle the problem together. AfriForum provides the ‘vehicle’ to get this work done. The community simply needs to seize this opportunity and become part of the recovery plan for Klerksdorp,” Pretorius concludes.
