AfriForum continues to monitor Swanton murder case following conclusion of investigation

AfriForum’s legal team attended court proceedings in the murder case of Air Force Sergeant Michael Swanton again today as part of the civil rights organisation’s watching brief. The case against the two accused, Thabang Eugene Sohole and Michael Makampe, was postponed to 2 November for allocation to the Regional Court. The police investigation into the murder has since been completed and finalised.

Swanton was shot dead in Pretoria North on 28 January this year after he and his wife were allegedly pulled over by a vehicle fitted with blue lights. At the time, the two accused were serving as bodyguards for the office of Douglas Maimane, former Mayor of the Madibeng Local Municipality.

“The completion of the investigation marks an important step forward. AfriForum will continue to monitor the case through its watching brief to ensure that the legal process takes its proper course, free from any political interference,” says Jacques Broodryk, AfriForum’s Chief Spokesperson for Community Safety.
