AfriForum branch in Bloemhof purchases new tractor for town maintenance
The AfriForum branch in Bloemhof purchased a new tractor on 25 March after several opportunities were identified that could be addressed with a tractor to improve the town. The branch also received several complaints from the community about the condition of open fields, parks and empty plots – a tractor would make this task much easier. The branch also decided to use the tractor to provide an affordable garbage removal service to the town.
Garden waste that accumulates on the sidewalks is a serious problem for Bloemhof residents, which is why the AfriForum branch now uses the tractor to remove the community’s garden waste at a fee. This service contributes to the branch being able to tackle projects in the town more sustainably. The branch already has a trailer that will be used to load the garden waste, as well as a machete to get rid of long grass in parks.
“The AfriForum branch in Bloemhof is working hard to clean up the town and to keep it that way. The purchase of the tractor is a big step forward in providing a service to the community and enables the branch to step in with garbage removal, should the municipality no longer meet their responsibilities. The tractor brings the branch one step closer to sustainability by providing a service that can fund it and at the same time gives it an opportunity to tackle new projects,” says Jp Nel, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for Stellaland.
AfriForum’s Bloemhof branch has already erected 10 bins in the town and plans to erect 10 more to keep the town clean and tidy.
