Swanton murder case postponed to proceed in Regional Court
The court proceedings in the case of the murdered South African Air Force Sergeant Michael Swanton continued today but was postponed to 16 November 2026, when the matter will proceed in the Pretoria Regional Court.
Swanton was shot and killed on 28 January 2026 in Pretoria North after he and his wife were allegedly stopped by individuals travelling in a vehicle fitted with blue lights. Two men, Thabang Eugene Sohole and Michael Makampe, who at the time were employed as bodyguards for the office of former Mayor of the Madibeng Local Municipality, Douglas Maimane, face charges in connection with Swanton’s murder and defeating the ends of justice.
AfriForum previously instructed its legal team to monitor the matter through a watching brief, following concerns about the accused’s political connections and the possibility of interference in the judicial process.
“AfriForum will continue to monitor the proceedings in an effort to promote transparency, accountability and the rule of law. No one, regardless of their political connections or position, should be above the law,” says Jacques Broodryk, AfriForum’s Chief Spokesperson for Community Safety.
