Overstrand branch sets up third water point for emergencies

AfriForum has expanded the Overstrand area’s preparedness for emergencies with a third emergency water point. This emergency water point is situated at Herberg-Aan-See’s home for the elderly in Gansbaai and will help the community respond effectively to emergencies, especially fires and water-supply interruptions.

Riaan Booysen, Safety Chairperson for AfriForum’s Overstrand branch, says the third emergency water point follows the branch’s renewed focus on disaster management. Among other things, the branch has started training volunteers in disaster management and firefighting and has also purchased a mobile firefighting unit, which serves as the second emergency water point in the Overstrand.

“Recent events have once again made it clear how important it is for communities to be prepared. An emergency water point can play a critical role during fires or when normal water supply is interrupted. Our aim is to create practical solutions that benefit the entire community,” says Booysen.

“The projects undertaken over the past few months all form part of an integrated approach to strengthening the Overstrand’s resilience to emergencies.”

AfriForum’s Overstrand branch will continue to work with local communities and relevant role players to develop projects that promote the safety, self-reliance and preparedness of the Overstrand.
