New AfriForum neighbourhood team in Klerksdorp repairs 119 potholes in May

The newly established AfriForum neighbourhood team in Klerksdorp used approximately 4,5 tonnes of G5 gravel during May to repair dangerous potholes in the Songloed residential area. A total of 119 potholes were repaired during this period to make roads safer and more accessible for residents.

AfriForum also responded to a request from an elderly resident of Elandsheuwel Street in Klerksdorp who needed assistance with clearing litter from the street. With the help of a donation, the new neighbourhood team, under the leadership of Romke de Jongh, cleaned up the area to make it neater and safer for residents.

In addition, pothole repairs are currently ongoing in Knoppiesdoorn Road. This project is being undertaken in cooperation with residents of the street and Harry Nysschen, owner of PTR in Doringkruin, who has made equipment and labour available to facilitate the repairs. This collaboration between local businesses, residents and AfriForum highlights the value of community cooperation and the difference that can be made when people work together on practical solutions.

AfriForum would like to thank all residents and stakeholders for their support and cooperation. The organisation encourages the community to continue reporting problems and to work together on practical solutions that can make a positive difference in Klerksdorp.

“These initiatives in Klerksdorp highlight the fact that communities need to become actively involved in their surroundings. We are aware that municipalities can no longer, or in some cases are unwilling to, perform these functions properly. That is why we must take responsibility ourselves and work together to get things done,” says Alta Pretorius, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the Mooi River.

“A neat and well-maintained neighbourhood is essential for the community’s wellbeing. We will continue to help establish this in Klerksdorp, because at present it is lacking in large parts of the town. Please get involved and help us to help one another,” says S.W. Scott, AfriForum’s Chairperson of the branch in Klerksdorp.
