Knysna branch donates plumbing equipment to municipality
AfriForum’s Knysna branch donated five fully equipped toolboxes with plumbing equipment to the Knysna Local Municipality’s Director of Infrastructure Services, Reggie Wesso, on 6 March. This equipment will enable the municipality’s plumbing teams to carry out plumbing work thoroughly.
This contribution forms part of AfriForum’s continued efforts to support local service delivery and help achieve practical solutions to infrastructure challenges – especially in light of the serious water losses that the area is currently experiencing.
According to AfriForum’s district coordinator for the Southern Cape, Marthinus Erasmus, the purpose of the donation is to ensure that the municipal teams have everything they need to quickly and effectively eliminate water leaks and broken pipes.
“We want to ensure that the necessary resources are available so that urgent repairs can be undertaken without unnecessary delays. In a time when every drop of water counts, it is essential that technical teams can act quickly and efficiently,” says Erasmus.
AfriForum is committed to ensuring that the equipment is used effectively and truly makes a difference on the ground.
Erasmus also expresses his confidence that a formal cooperation agreement between AfriForum and the municipality will be concluded soon. Such an agreement will create the opportunity for structured cooperation, accountability and sustainable support.
“AfriForum is convinced that formal collaboration between communities and local authorities, together with active community engagement, is the only sustainable solution to South Africa’s service delivery challenges. When civil society and municipalities work together purposefully, resources can be better utilized, expertise shared and accountability strengthened. Communities must stop waiting for a political solution, and instead step in and become part of the solution. AfriForum’s Knysna branch stands ready to be part of this long-term solution,” concludes Erasmus.
AfriForum encourages residents to become part of the branch’s projects and work together to build a culture of self-help.
