From paint to refuse bins: How the AfriForum branch is building a better Christiana

In July, AfriForum’s Christiana branch once again rolled up its sleeves to build a safer and cleaner Christiana through various community projects. A beautification project, the repair of dangerous ditches, and the donation of paint to preschools and much-needed food to a local animal shelter were all on the branch’s list of community projects this past month – initiatives that demonstrate the branch’s ongoing commitment to community development.

As part of the branch’s support for local educational institutions, more than 40 litres of paint were donated to the Klein Robijn nursery school and Wielie Walie preschool. The paint will be used for refurbishment work to create a neat and pleasant learning environment for the children.

The branch also donated over 50 kg of dog and cat food to a local animal shelter to assist with animal care and help alleviate the pressure the shelter is currently experiencing.

Christiana’s AfriForum Youth branch undertook a beautification project that saw more than 20 flowerpots and refuse bins in the town painted. The project breathed new life into the town’s street furniture and contributes to a tidier, more attractive environment.

Road safety also received attention when the branch used a TLB to fill in open ditches in Wes, President, and Forsman Streets. The trenches posed a serious safety risk to road users and pedestrians, and the repairs have now made these parts of the town safe for the community once again.

Bianca van der Westhuizen, Chairperson of AfriForum’s Christiana branch, believes these projects are making a tangible difference in the town. “We are proud to make a difference in Christiana through our practical projects. Every project we undertake contributes to a safer, tidier, and stronger community. We are grateful to every volunteer and supporter who makes their time and resources available to make these projects possible,” she explains.
