Delportshoop branch tackles new year with renewed vigour

The AfriForum branch in Delportshoop officially kicked off its projects for 2026 when it cleaned several stormwater drains and canals and filled almost 70 potholes in town.

As part of AfriForum’s ongoing efforts to make a lasting difference in Delportshoop, the branch focused its attention on the area’s road infrastructure this past weekend. A total of 68 potholes were filled with 250 kg of cement and three tons of sand. These repairs were done to improve road safety for motorists and pedestrians.

Earlier this month, the branch also tackled clogged stormwater drains and canals at the corner of Nel Street and Delport Street and undertook further cleaning work in Brits Street. This intervention was necessary, as the dumping of construction debris, among other things, clogs the canals and seriously impedes water drainage.

“Unfortunately, the illegal dumping of garden refuse on sidewalks and in stormwater drains remains a problem in the area, especially in Nel Street. With AfriForum’s knowledge and the cooperation of residents, these spaces can be kept clean and functional,” says a member of the community.

“It is of the utmost importance that residents act responsibly, keep their immediate surroundings clean and refrain from using stormwater drains, canals and sidewalks as dumping grounds. Sustainable community growth is only possible when residents and organisations work together,” says Ben Venter, vice-chairman of AfriForum’s Delportshoop branch.
