Christiana branch works hard to clean up town
The AfriForum branch in Christiana worked hard to clean up various parts of the town from 17 February to 23 February. The branch teamed up with the local AfriForum Youth members to cut grass and pick up garbage at various locations in the town.
Grass was cut, trees pruned, and garbage removed on the corners of Best and Dirkie Uys, Eeufees and President Streets, as well as the corners of President and Pretorius, Diamant and Christiana Streets.
The branch removed 20 refuse bags full of garbage during the course of this cleanup.
According to Jp Nel, AfriForum’s district coordinator for Stellaland, the overgrown street corners are a safety risk as they impede visibility and increase the risk of accidents.
“AfriForum’s Christiana branch is working hard to create a better environment for all the residents of this community. One that everyone can be proud of. Cutting grass helps with this and it increases safety as criminals can also hide more easily in the long grass. The branch will continue to work to improve the town,” Nel.
The AfriForum and AfriForum Youth branch in Christiana plans to undertake various actions and projects throughout the year and would like to invite the community to get involved in these projects. Visit www.wordlid.co.za to get involved.
