AfriForum’s Uitenhage branch donates unique bowling mats to local bowls club
AfriForum’s Uitenhage branch on 14 May donated 12 new bowling mats to the local bowls club as part of the branch’s continued involvement in community development and support for local sporting initiatives.
The mats are intentionally light-coloured to prevent it from becoming hot in direct sunlight and scorching the grass surface. Its design also reduces wind resistance to prevent it from blowing away and disrupting matches or practice sessions. This makes the mats particularly well suited to local playing conditions.
This donation was made with the aim of improving the club’s facilities and encouraging players of all ages to participate actively in the sport. Bowls has formed part of the community’s social and sporting heartbeat for many years and this contribution will help to further support the club’s day-to-day operations.
“Community organisations and sports clubs play an important role in bringing people together. Through this donation, AfriForum’s Uitenhage branch aims to make a positive contribution and help promote local sport,” says Louis van der Vyver, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the Eastern Cape.
Duane Nel, President of the Uitenhage Bowls Club, expressed his gratitude for the support and emphasised that the new mats would be a great asset to the club and its members.
