AfriForum is an Afrikaans civil rights organisation that protects the rights of minority groups at national as well as provincial level, and anyone who can identify with AfriForum’s principles and objectives may join the organisation. AfriForum’s community plan focuses on mobilising communities to thus take control of their own streets and neighbourhoods again. AfriForum’s Paarl and Stellenbosch branches merge to form Winelands branch

AfriForum’s Paarl and Stellenbosch branches officially merged this month and will henceforth be known as AfriForum’s Winelands branch. This merger forms part of a strategic effort to distribute capacity, expertise and resources more effectively across the Winelands and to serve communities more efficiently.

The Paarl and Stellenbosch areas face similar challenges and, by joining forces, the new Winelands branch will be able to play a stronger and more coordinated role in addressing local issues. The merger will enable the branch to serve a larger geographical area and to distribute resources and responsibilities more effectively. Among other things, the Winelands branch will focus on community projects, supporting schools and bettering safety.

“The merger gives us the opportunity to apply our expertise and energy where they can make the greatest difference. Our aim is to build an active and accessible community structure that can help residents find solutions to local challenges,” says Ignatius van Rensburg, Chairperson of AfriForum’s Winelands branch.

The management of the new branch consists of Ignatius van Rensburg (Chairperson), Jeanne Spamers (Deputy Chairperson), Rudi Spamers (Safety Chairperson), Antoinette Tigar (Secretary), Wena Bartie (Treasurer), Drikus Groenewald (Local Government Affairs), Jacques du Toit (Environmental Affairs), Martin Spamers (Youth Officer) and Karin Hanekom (Business Network and Adviser).

“AfriForum looks forward to building on the work already done by the Paarl and Stellenbosch branches and, through the new Winelands branch, fostering even greater cooperation between communities,” says Marique van Dalen, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the Boland.

The Winelands branch invites residents, schools and other community organisations to get involved and work together to find solutions to the challenges facing the area. Strong communities are built when residents take collective responsibility for their safety, environment and future.
