AfriForum’s nationwide mass patrol yields one success after another
AfriForum’s network of 177 neighbourhood and farm watches mobilised this past weekend in a coordinated nationwide mass patrol aimed at strengthening community safety and supporting law enforcement in the fight against crime.
This large-scale operation forms part of AfriForum’s ongoing commitment to proactive community-based safety initiatives. Through close cooperation with private security companies and law enforcement agencies, AfriForum structures once again demonstrated the value of organised civilian participation in crime prevention.
Several notable successes were achieved during the operation, including in Kraaifontein in the Western Cape. A joint effort between AfriForum’s Kraaifontein neighbourhood watch, private security, and law enforcement led to the removal of dangerous and illegal weapons, including a firearm, from known criminals. This intervention contributes to a safer community by reducing the availability of weapons used in violent crimes.
In Johannesburg North in Gauteng, AfriForum’s local neighbourhood watch assisted law enforcement in the arrest of seven suspects linked to various crimes, including drug-related offences. Meanwhile, in Hartbeespoort in the North West, AfriForum patrollers were instrumental in tracking down a stolen vehicle, as well as recovering other stolen items.
According to Jacques Broodryk, AfriForum’s Chief Spokesperson for Community Safety, these outcomes reaffirm the importance of cooperation between communities and law enforcement.
“AfriForum’s neighbourhood and farm watches act as a force multiplier for law enforcement. Our members are trained, organised and committed to making their communities safer. This weekend’s successes once again prove that when communities stand together and work with authorities, tangible results follow,” says Broodryk.
“AfriForum will continue to expand and strengthen its safety structures across the country by empowering residents to take lawful and responsible action to protect themselves and their property, while always working within the framework of the law and in support of the police.”
AfriForum extends its appreciation to all members, security partners, and law enforcement officials who participated in the mass patrol and contributed to its success.
