AfriForum encourages exhausted municipal workers after windstorm

The AfriForum branch in Kariega (Uitenhage) showed its appreciation for the municipal workers who have been working late into the evening to replace power infrastructure damaged during a recent windstorm. Members of the Uitenhage branch and the Mosel neighbourhood watch provided food and refreshments to two teams consisting of 20 workers each.

Strong winds in the area caused electrical cables to be damaged at various locations after trees and branches fell onto them. The damage left many residents without electricity for up to 10 days. Municipal workers worked for many hours and under difficult conditions in an effort to repair the damage. However, power supply to certain parts of the area has still not been restored.

“These workers operate under challenging circumstances in an effort to restore essential services to the community. As a neighbourhood watch, we believe it is important to acknowledge those who act in the interest of the community by going above and beyond the line of duty,” says Minette van der Vyver, Leader of the Mosel neighbourhood watch.

The neighbourhood watch emphasises that cooperation between communities, emergency service workers and municipal personnel is of vital importance during times of emergency and natural disasters. Small gestures of support help to build a positive and resilient community.

AfriForum’s Mosel neighbourhood watch also thanks all emergency service personnel, municipal workers and volunteers who have worked tirelessly in recent weeks to limit damage and assist residents during and after the storms.
