AfriForum eases parents’ access to Kroonstad schools with safe roads

AfriForum’s Kroonstad branch has already used 10 000 kg of tar since 31 March to repair the potholes in Senekal Street, which provides access to three local schools. This project forms part of AfriForum’s national schools project that was launched during April and May and aims to focus on improving schools and their environment.

According to Johan Fourie, Chairperson of AfriForum’s Kroonstad branch, there was decided to tackle the large number of potholes in Senekal Street, as parents and learners use this road daily to access Trio High School, Trio Primary School and Johan Slabbert Special School.

The three schools involved have also shown their support by each contributing 5 000 kg of tar to the project. The repair work is expected to make approximately 1 km of the road in front of the schools safe and drivable again, enabling parents to get their children to school more safely.

“This is yet again just proof that we as communities can make a big difference when we work together,” says Christa Ikking, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the Highlands.

“There is a great need to renovate the town’s schools, but without the community’s contribution it is difficult to achieve great success,” adds Fourie.

AfriForum encourages communities to join hands and work together to create sustainable solutions to local challenges.
