AfriForum donates road-marking paint to Hopetown State Hospital

AfriForum donated a total of ten litres of white road-marking paint to the Wege Community Health Centre (CHC) in Hopetown in the Northern Cape, enabling hospital staff to paint new parking bay markings in front of the building.

During a previous visit to the hospital Catherine Shihamba, Head of the facility, mentioned to Thomas van Dalen, AfriForum’s Head of the Northern Cape Region, that new parking bay markings were needed in front of the building, but that no funds were currently available for this purpose.

AfriForum donated the necessary road-marking paint to the hospital, and the staff set to work getting the parking areas painted. According to Van Dalen, the initiative is an example of how communities and state institutions can make a tangible difference by taking matters into their own hands.

“It is encouraging to see that the staff of a state institution still take such pride in their workplace that they are willing to step in, where the state fails to provide, to improve the appearance of the facility,” says Van Dalen.

“AfriForum believes that communities should not simply wait for the state to solve problems. Where people are willing to take responsibility themselves and lend a hand, such initiatives should be supported and encouraged.”

AfriForum will continue to engage with communities and, where possible, make practical contributions.
