AfriForum branch mows grass in Klerksdorp
The AfriForum branch in Klerksdorp has been working tirelessly over the past month to revive the area around Songloed. This team tackled Leemhuis Street and cut approximately 2 km of grass on medians, as well as the island on the corner of Oosthuizen Avenue and Leemhuis Street. The stormwater drainage in this street was also cleaned so that rainwater can drain effectively.
The branch also cut the grass at the park where the mountain bike track is located and cleaned the area. The maintenance of the mountain bike track is of great benefit to the community, as many people use the park for walking and cycling. With the help of security companies, those illegally occupying the area were also evicted so that the community can exercise there safely. In addition, approximately 20 potholes were filled.

“It is absurd that the tax-paying community still has to keep the town clean themselves. Since the municipality fails to do much maintenance work, AfriForum’s neighbourhood teams are now more essential than ever,” says Alta Pretorius, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for Mooi River.
“At this stage we have a choice: either our town remains in the dire state it is in, or we do something about it ourselves. The local AfriForum branch has chosen to do something about it and improve the town,” says S.W. Scott, Chairperson of AfriForum’s Klerksdorp branch.
“AfriForum therefore calls on residents to get involved, join the Klerksdorp branch and together make a real difference in the state of the town.”
