AfriForum improves stormwater drainage, road infrastructure in Delportshoop
AfriForum’s Delportshoop branch successfully completed two important infrastructure projects over the past week to improve the safety and quality of life of residents. The branch oversaw the installation of a stormwater pipe in Brits Street and filled several potholes in Scholtz Street.
To protect the road infrastructure against erosion and to ensure that vehicles and pedestrians still have safe access to the area after heavy rain, the branch installed a stormwater pipe across the stream in Brits Street. This pipe plays an important role in channeling rainwater under the road rather than allowing water to flow across the road surface.
A week earlier, the branch filled a total of 16 large potholes in Scholtz Street. Three volunteers worked together to use approximately three tonnes of sand and stone, five bags of cement and one tonne of gravel to repair the road. Thanks to the donation of cement by Danie Maritz and SJ Jansen van Rensburg, as well as Ben Venter who made the sand available, this project would not have been possible.
“When communities come together, they can make a big difference. These projects show that residents do not have to stand idly by while infrastructure deteriorates. Through cooperation and community involvement, practical solutions can be found that benefit everyone,” says Lize-Mari Smit, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the Karoo.
