It is clear that this situation can not be remedied at national level, as this would be akin to asking the wolf to watch the sheep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While politicians like Cele continue to make empty promises, ordinary South Africans are being murdered and raped at alarming rates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cCele is obviously not fit for his position. He prioritises party politics over ensuring that the SAPS functions effectively. The minister has aso repeatedly shown that he does not understand the scope of his role by interfering in the SAPS\u2019 operational aspects,\u201d says Jacques Broodryk, AfriForum\u2019s spokesperson for Community Safety.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cUnfortunately just getting rid of Cele will not solve the problem at this stage. We have gone too far down this road. It is now time to devolve the SAPS\u2019 powers so that this criminal mess can be cleaned up,\u201d concludes Broodryk.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">AfriForum also calls on members of the public to get involved with their local civilian safety structures to help ensure the safety of their communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">AfriForum has 159
