AfriForum is aware of the Mayor of the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality\u2019s letter that the city is considering accommodating schools regarding the property tax debacle of schools, universities, and colleges within the metro. Last week the City of Johannesburg announced that any levy above the standard 4,85% will be written off at educational institutions for the rest of the financial year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAlthough, it is a step in the right direction it is still unclear how this proses will work, what the impact will be on the budget and what measures the municipality will put in place to protect schools against collecting institutions. The parties who are litigating in this matter can play an important role to ensure that this process results in schools being protected,\u201d says Morn\u00e9 Mostert, Manager of Local Government Affairs at AfriForum.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
AfriForum is proceeding with its litigation proses against the metro regarding the property tax policy and served replicating documents on the metro last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
