The trial of Julius Malema, leader of the EFF, and Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, EFF MP, was today once again postponed in the Randburg Magistrate\u2019s Court. The two are charged with the alleged assault of a SAPS colonel, Johannes Venter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The postponement came after one of the accused\u2019s legal representative was apparently in contact with someone who tested positive for Covid-19. The legal representative apparently tested negative for Covid-19 but has developed symptoms in the meantime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the previous scheduled hearing the case was also postponed in a strange way, without the accused even appearing in court. The court also heard earlier that the evidence in this case had been tampered with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt is incomprehensible how this case could be postponed if the legal representative tested negative for Covid-19. This is now the umpteenth strange turn in this matter. One cannot help but get the impression that Malema and Ndlozi is receiving special treatment,\u201d says Jacques Broodryk, AfriForum\u2019s Campaigns Manager.\u00a0<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt is deplorable that this case has been postponed so far; even if it is unclear whether or not the legal representative does have Covid-19. Should the result be negative the case could have proceeded tomorrow,\u201d says Andrew Leask, Lead Investigator at AfriForum\u2019s Private Prosecution Unit.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
The case has been postponed until 7 April 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
