The civil rights organisation AfriForum\u2019s Edenvale and Kempton Park neighbourhood watches on 24\u00a0March received victim assistance training. This training was presented during a workshop by Olivia Guerini, a registered counsellor.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWith the strong growth of AfriForum\u2019s East Rand neighbourhood watches, it is of critical importance that our neighbourhood watch members receive continued professional training. The neighbourhood watch members assist various people at crime or accident scenes and need to know how to act in specific situations,\u201d says Jan Vermaak, Chairperson of AfriForum\u2019s Kempton Park branch.<\/p>\n
According to Linda McKenzie, Chairperson of the Safety Portfolio of AfriForum\u2019s Edenvale branch, this training is only the first phase of a series of training sessions that are being planned in cooperation with various role-players. \u201cThe neighbourhood watch would like to make a positive difference in our community, but we are only as strong as our membership. We are therefore making a plea to the community to become involved at their local AfriForum branch and neighbourhood watch, and to proactively contribute to the combating of crime.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
