The AfriForum branch in Parys undertook essential repairs to the road infrastructure surrounding Parys\u2019 high school and primary school this past Friday. The civil rights organisation purchased a total of 280 bags, or seven tonnes of tar, and succeeded in repairing approximately 150 potholes in Schilbach Street and First Avenue, from Father Balink Street to Grens Street, as well as in St Jan Street in front of Parys Primary School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the tar was not enough to fill all the enormous potholes in First Avenue, so the repairs to this road will continue as soon as tar is available again. Botes Sand has meanwhile donated enough sand to fill and compact two large ditches, which caused serious damage to many vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alta Pretorius, AfriForum\u2019s District Coordinator for the Mooi River, says it is because of the cooperation and donations from Parys High School, Parys Primary School, the parents and teachers at the various schools, Coastal Hire, Botes Sand, Woodlands, the DA and Shogun that it was possible for the branch to undertake this project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is encouraging to see how so many different people and businesses have joined hands to make a difference in an area that is used daily by school children and their parents. Experience has already taught us that residents should not wait for the municipality to get something done and because schools are the hubs of strong communities, AfriForum focuses on renovating these areas,\u201d says Pretorius.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
