Over the past two months AfriForum\u2019s Volksrust branch has been erecting or replacing 23 stop signs across town that were previously missing or damaged. These road signs will help to make the roads of Volksrust safer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before the project began, the branch contacted the Pixley Ka Seme Local Municipality to collaborate on this vital project. After several attempts and no response, the branch undertook to safeguard the roads itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first phase of the project has been completed around Pionier Primary and Volksrust High School. There have been frequent complaints that motorists drive over intersections near schools without stopping. Many of the dangerous intersections are used by learners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe lives of motorists and learners are put at risk daily by something as simple as a stop sign that is no longer there. Although the Municipality does not realise the seriousness of the matter, AfriForum knew it had to step in to help keep the community safe,\u201d says Johan Kennard, Chairperson of AfriForum\u2019s Volksrust branch.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The branch has completed the second phase of the project last week and replaced a further 13 stop signs. These stop signs were erected on Hospital, Volk and Kruger Streets, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAfriForum strives to erect road signs on a monthly basis to prevent the deterioration from reaching such a critical point again. The branch therefore appeals to residents to report the absence of road signs and to get involved with AfriForum to make the repairs possible,\u201d concludes Kennard.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
