Fresh coat of paint works wonders for Twin Palms Park in Strand

A lick of paint that AfriForum’s Helderbergkom branch purchased for renovation work has gone a long way towards sprucing up the Twin Palms Park in Strand. Nellie Meyer, who is responsible for environmental affairs at the branch, has made practical and visible improvements to the park’s overall appearance over the past month.

The branch recently sanded and repainted the park’s swings to extend the life of the equipment. Furthermore, a variety of aloes were planted to liven up the park. This plant species was deliberately chosen because it requires minimal maintenance, is water-wise and is well adapted to the local climate.

The branch also cleaned the existing rock gardens and hard surfaces in the park with a high-pressure washer. This process removed dirt and algae that had stuck to the stones and noticeably improved the overall appearance of the park.

This park, which is centrally located between several residential neighborhoods and estates, serves as a safe play space for families and children in the area.

Meyer emphasises that small, sustainable interventions like this make a tangible difference in the quality of life of residents. “When we take good care of public spaces, we build more beautiful neighbourhoods and take on a shared responsibility that promotes community spirit,” she says.

AfriForum encourages residents to take ownership of their environment by picking up litter, protecting infrastructure and reporting any damage or vandalism. This initiative forms part of the branch’s ongoing efforts to improve, protect and make public spaces in the Helderberg Basin more accessible and attractive to residents.

The Helderbergkom branch remains committed to the continued upgrading and maintenance of parks and open spaces, with a focus on sustainability, safety and community well-being.
