Fewer potholes in Stilfontein thanks to AfriForum
AfriForum’s Stilfontein branch did not rest on its laurels during the past festive season. This branch, in collaboration with the community and Pieter du Preez, the FF+ councillor of Ward 30, launched a large-scale action to repair potholes in Wards 30 and 31. The AfriForum branch purchased 21 tons of tar with their own funds, as well as donations from community members and businesses.
The branch has focused on the main routes for now, namely Ruth First Road, Bantjes Street, Stilfontein Road and a large section of Keurboom Street. The project will be continued soon as the company from which the tar is purchased was closed during the festive season and the project could therefore not continue.
“I would like to thank everyone who was involved in this project and who will also be involved in the future. The success of this project so far is once again proof that we as a community can make a big difference in Stilfontein if we all work together,” says Jonathan Fourie, chairperson of AfriForum’s Stilfontein branch.
“This is a very good initiative by the branch to improve Stilfontein. The fact that the community is involved will also ensure the sustainability of the project,” says Alta Pretorius, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the Mooi River.
