The civil rights organisation AfriForum strongly condemns the racist outburst against white South Africans by Fikile Mbalula, Secretary General of the ANC. During a media conference yesterday at Luthuli House in Johannesburg, on the outcomes of the ANC’s recent National Executive Committee meeting, Mbalula lashed out at white South Africans and Afrikaner refugees to the US. During the event, he attacked and smeared the white refugees to the US as “car guards” and murderers. AfriForum labels this outburst as unacceptable and considers Mbalula’s stereotyping of white South Africans as bloodthirsty murderers who target each other and black South Africans to be blatant racism.

In the same speech, Mbalula reaffirmed the ANC’s commitment to discriminatory race laws – laws that even discriminate against children, as demonstrated in the Bidvest saga. He also challenged the US to impose sanctions on ANC leaders for their defence of the country’s race laws.

According to Ernst van Zyl, Head of Public Relations at AfriForum, Mbalula, in addition to his racist remarks, also added fuel to the fire of the diplomatic crisis between the US and the South African government by branding the US government as “imperialists”. Mbalula continued his confrontational approach and attacked Brent Bozell, the US ambassador to South Africa, labelling him a “right-wing proponent” of banning of the ANC as a terrorist organisation during the Struggle.

“Mbalula’s racist outburst against white South Africans exposes the hatred that he and many of his ANC comrades clearly have for the white citizens of South Africa. It is shameful to blame victims of his government’s discrimination for the ANC’s diplomatic and domestic failures,” Van Zyl concludes.
