AfriForum demands answers from Ugu District Municipality
The AfriForum branch in Margate has placed the Ugu District Municipality on terms to urgently provide answers regarding how the municipality plans to address the lack of water supply and what plans will be implemented to normalize these services.
The branch demands the following from the municipality:
1. That the real reasons for the frequent water outages are provided.
2. An action plan on how the municipality plans to sort out these problems.
3. An acceptable emergency plan for the frequent interruptions.
4. That a water service and development plan be made available to AfriForum.
“Frequent water interruptions occur in Margate and the reasons given for these interruptions are simply unacceptable. The South Coast’s economy is dependent on tourism and this ongoing water crisis is leading to huge financial losses,” says Cliff Holme, Chairman of AfriForum’s Margate branch.
“We see daily how infrastructure in Kwazulu-Natal is deteriorating and AfriForum is disappointed that the municipality is so slow to solve this problem. The Ugu District Municipality has already had to explain the water problem to parliament and since no real changes have taken place, AfriForum will also inform parliament that this poor service continues,” says Eugene van Aswegen, AfriForum’s district coordinator in KwaZulu-Natal.
The municipality has until March 9 to respond to the branch’s demands.
