AfriForum cordially invites you to the premiere screening of its documentary Gauteng’s landfill time bomb.
Experts warn that Gauteng’s remaining landfill airspace could be exhausted within the next few years. If this happens before viable alternatives are in place, municipalities will face an escalating waste management crisis. Such a crisis will have serious consequences for people, public health and the environment.
The documentary brings together insights from waste management experts in metropolitan municipalities, the private sector and the industry. In it, we examine the causes of Gauteng’s landfill crisis, the risks that are associated with diminishing capacity, and the practical options that are available to avert a complete system failure.
Through this screening, AfriForum aims to encourage informed and constructive engagement on municipal waste management and service delivery, with a view to identifying realistic and sustainable solutions.
