AfriForum congratulates King Misuzulu on a successful Royal Reed Dance
AfriForum congratulates His Majesty King Misuzulu on the success of the annual Royal Reed Dance Celebration that was held at eMashobeni Royal Palace south of Pongola in KwaZulu-Natal on 13-14 September. It was a very historic celebration and confirmed the positive momentum of a new era of the Zulu Kingdom as it was the first time that the event was held at His Majesty’s eMashobeni Palace and a lot of work was done in a short time to make a successful event possible.
“It is heartening to see that tradition, heritage and cultural identity are alive and well and we are encouraged by the fact that His Majesty is working to defend, protect and develop these cultural treasures as also confirmed by His Majesty’s address at the celebration. Moral regeneration is crucial for the wellbeing of our society, and we acknowledge the role this important celebration plays in this regard. It is especially encouraging that the event was also partly self-funded through, amongst others, partnerships. The only way for a cultural community to truly thrive and reach full potential is through self-sufficiency and self-reliance, and we are glad that the Zulu Kingdom took another positive step in this regard with this event,” says Barend Uys, Head of Intercultural Relations and Cooperation at AfriForum.
“It was a privilege for AfriForum to attend the Royal Reed Dance as a guest of His Majesty the King, which is a continuation of the good relations between the Zulu and Afrikaner cultural communities that started during the reign of King Mpande kaSenzangakhona. AfriForum is looking forward to further collaboration with His Majesty King Misuzulu to ensure a future for the children of our respective and all other cultural communities here at the southern tip of Africa,” concludes Uys.
