AfriForum branch hard at work cleaning up Vryburg
While many towns are facing the consequences of poor maintenance, AfriForum’s Vryburg branch has taken it upon itself to improve the local environment. Equipped with lawnmowers and driven by the attitude that doing something is better than doing nothing, the branch has worked tirelessly over the past two months to keep Vryburg clean and well maintained.
The branch has cleaned more than six vacant plots in town, including in Sable Street and Ward 7, where open fields and pavements were cleared and mowed. The grass at the Vryburg Concentration Camp Cemetery and park has also been cut again. The maintenance of this park allows children to make use of it on a daily basis. Last year, AfriForum repainted the jungle gyms to keep them as neat as possible.
Over the past two months, the branch has cut more than five hectares of grass and continues to undertake these kinds of initiatives. The long-term goal is to establish a dedicated neighbourhood team that will be available daily to address a wider range of challenges in town. The branch therefore also hosted a business breakfast where the importance of AfriForum’s neighbourhood team was discussed.
“The AfriForum branch in Vryburg is working hard to create a clean and tidy town for everyone. It is extremely important for businesses to become involved in these projects to ensure that the branch can continue with them sustainably. If everyone works together, a better Vryburg can be created,” says Jp Nel, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for Stellaland.
